An I only stalled once. (Mostly because I didn’t want to screw it up and panicked, then screwed up. )

But all in all, it went quite well, and boy its already more fun than than any automatic I’ve driven. This is a great start for the new car, now I need to figure out a name...

Wooooo! It’s a learning curve, so patience is great haha.

As someone who learned to drive in a manual it’s always somewhat funny to see stuff like this (note: I’m not making fun of you), the whole idea about not being able to drive a manual is quite alien to me :)

Anyway, good luck mate, prepare for fun :)

Yeah, I kept getting stressed about it and my dad laughed at me and said “Branden, you’ve been driving a manual for 5 minutes, don’t expect to be perfect.”

Haha, that’s entirely true. It may take a few weeks, and it may take a bit more than that. Just remember that practice makes perfect.

Thank you! And I would have liked to have learned on a manual, but my first truck was given to me as a project by a friend of my fathers, so I wasn’t going to be one to look a gift horse in the mouth.

If I had my way I’d be out there right now, but as soon as I can I plan on getting lots of practice :)

Well, that’s a very good reason :)

It’s just the “in Europe we learn on a manual, and that’s it” thing I guess :)

It took me about 300-400 kms of driving to learn how to do it well. Good luck mate!

Reminds me of when I was just learning and tried to do a hillstart with a Honda Fit (and failed). The conversation went as follows

“Just rev it up and dump the clutch to get out of here”

“I can’t, I have too much sympathy for this car”

“FUCK YOUR MECHANICAL SYMPATHY, ABUSE THAT BITCH”

When in doubt, clutch out! The most helpful thing someone told me is that if it feels like it’s going to stall, just step on the clutch pedal. And to just slowly release every time. Most newer cars are also pretty hard to stall.

True, but at 15-20 minutes, you don't have any excuses.
